Strengths

The meta presentation and fourth-wall-breaking devices make impressive use of the game medium.
The payoff of foreshadowing and the late-game twists are excellent, while the folk horror and mermaid legend are presented compellingly.
Stronger character relationships and coming-of-age elements provide a different kind of emotional enjoyment from the previous game.

Weaknesses

Many feel that the true ending requirements and some meta puzzles are excessively difficult and hard to solve without a guide.
The horror, dark atmosphere, and tension of deduction and exploration are weaker than in the previous game.
The overall length is short, and the playtime is considered insufficient for the price.
