Backstory
Hakurei Shrine. It is a dilapidated shrine located on the eastern border of Gensokyo.
As if youkai who had lost their way home had made this their home, it was always bustling with
creatures other than humans.
With so many youkai around, there were naturally no human visitors, and the deity enshrined there
was troubled by the lack of devotion.
But even for such a shrine, a turning point finally arrived.
Reimu Hakurei, the shrine maiden, was troubled.
Reimu: “I wonder how I can drive the youkai away.
I wonder how I can attract human worshippers.”
???: “Hey. Those dumplings look delicious.”
Reimu: “Oh, Marisa.
Hmm…”
Marisa: “Got something on your mind?”
Reimu: “The other day, I had a rather strange visitor…”
Marisa: “This shrine is always full of strange visitors, isn’t it?”
A deity’s power is derived from the faith placed in them.
Hakurei Shrine, with its few visitors, has been gradually losing that power; it has now reached the point where its opinions are ignored even at gatherings of the eight million
gods.
Although it is said there is only one shrine in Gensokyo, compared to deities who maintain numerous
shrines in the outside world, a lack of devotion is undeniable, and Hakurei Shrine’s status
has been steadily declining.
Reimu: “Youkai are weird visitors too, but…
The other day, a strange human showed up.”
Marisa: “A human visitor? That’s quite rare.”
Reimu: “That guy ordered us to shut down the shrine.”
Marisa: “Wait, so this shrine was actually open for business…?”
In addition to serving as a dwelling for the deity, the Hakurei Shrine plays a role that is
indispensable to Gensokyo. For that reason, Reimu had been absolutely certain that, no matter how much faith people might lose,
a suspension of operations was simply out of the question.
That indispensable role is to guard the boundary separating Gensokyo from the outside world,
but…
Marisa: “The shrine being shut down? That’s a strange story.
So what are we supposed to do with the shrine after it’s closed?”
Reimu: “Either tear it down, or hand it over to the god residing on the mountain.”
Marisa: “Hmm. That’s doubly strange.”
Reimu: “I don’t know who that human is…
but no matter how you look at it, that’s not something a normal god would say, right?”
Marisa: “True. Well, I’m curious about that person too…
But what are we going to do about it?
You’re not seriously planning to take those words at face value and hand the shrine over
to some mysterious deity, are you?”
Reimu: “If the deity residing on the mountain can attract more devotion than the current one,
I suppose that might be a possibility.
It would drive away the youkai, and above all, it would make the shrine feel more like a shrine, right?”
Marisa: “I see.
So even if the deity at the shrine changes, it wouldn’t really affect you, Reimu?”
Reimu: “It’s just… no matter how I look at it, that whole story seems fishy.
It’s weird to try to kick out the original deity and take over the shrine.
That person seemed powerful, but… I’d never seen
that face before.
It’s definitely either an imposter—a youkai or something—or an evil god or something!”
After agonizing over it for a long time, Reimu decided to go meet the deity said to be residing on the mountain.
Reimu had deliberately avoided venturing into the mountains, but she finally made a firm resolution to
seriously consider the fate of the shrine that had lost its faith.
At that moment, she still had no idea she would end up fighting.
-------------------------
Light filled the sky above the clouds.
The sound of machinery could be heard in the distance. Had the Tengu’s factory awakened?
This was a world where people from the village were forbidden to enter.
Buildings made of wood.
The out-of-season croaking of frogs. A vast number of snake skins.
She was there. She witnessed it all right there.
Along with a single human.

System Attack System
● Normal Shot
For some reason, you can fire an infinite number of talismans and needles.
● Spirit Attack
You can use one option to perform an attack that eliminates enemy projectiles.
Reimu’s Spirit Attack has a wide range but doesn’t travel very far forward.
Marisa’s Spirit Attack can clear enemy bullets quite far ahead, but its range is narrow.
However, you are completely invincible while using it, so try using it when you’re in a pinch.
At Power 5 (MAX), you can use Spirit Attack once without losing an option.
●Options
Powerful allies.
In this game, the protagonist’s shot does not get stronger even when you power up.
Instead, the number of options increases.
Power 0–4 …… 0–4 options
Power 5 …… 4 options (MAX)
Some equipment has significantly different option placements depending on whether you’re moving at high or low speed.
Using Spirit Strike reduces your Power by one, but since many Power-up
items drop, be sure to use it before things get dangerous.
System Items
●Items
Items may appear when you defeat enemies.
Power-up Items
Increases Power by 0.05. Maximum at 5.0.
When Power is at its maximum, a Faith Item (Small) will appear instead of this item.
Large Power-Up Item
Increases Power by 1.0. Maximum is 5.0.
When Power is at its maximum, a Faith Item (Small) will appear instead of this item.
Score Item
Adds points to your score. The higher up on the screen you collect it, the higher the score,
with the maximum score being equal to the Faith Points displayed in the lower-left corner of the screen.
Score Item (Large)
Grants the maximum score regardless of where on the screen it is collected.
During boss battles, when your Power is at its maximum (5.0), the boss will drop this item as you progress through the stages.
Under normal circumstances, no enemies drop this item.
Extend Item
Adds one more player.
Faith Item (Large)
Increases your Faith Points.
Faith Item (Small)
Slightly increases your Faith Points.
● Collecting Items
Move your character to the top of the screen to collect all items on the screen.
You can do this at any time.
System: Faith Points
● Faith Points
The number displayed in the bottom-left corner of the screen represents your Faith Points (how much faith you have gathered).
Since these points determine your score from scoring items, you must pay close attention to them when trying to earn points.
Faith Points increase by collecting green items. There is no other way to increase them.
Collecting scoring items after raising your Faith Points will yield a higher score.
Whenever possible, collect items in the order of green → blue.
● Decrease and Maintenance of Faith
Faith gradually diminishes over time.
Even if you slightly increase your Faith by collecting a green item, it will disappear in the blink of an eye.
There is a way to temporarily halt this decrease in Faith Points.
This is achieved by taking actions such as picking up items or defeating enemies.
Immediately after taking an action, your Faith Points will not decrease for a brief moment.
If you pick up another item or defeat an enemy during this time, you can keep your Faith high.
(You can check the duration of this pause by the length of the bar displayed at the bottom of your Faith Points.)
Additionally, your Faith Points do not decrease during boss battles or conversations, but they will drop significantly if you make a mistake.
● Spell Card Bonus
Boss enemies may launch a special attack called a Spell Card Attack.
If you defeat the boss during this attack without making any mistakes or using Spirit Strikes, you’ll receive a Spell Card Bonus.
The Spell Card Bonus starts at 10 times your Faith Points and decreases over time, so
be sure to defeat the boss quickly.
Also, during a Spell Card Attack, even if you use Spirit Strikes, enemy projectiles won’t count toward your Faith Points.
● Tips for Scoring
・To collect score items, move closer to the top of the screen to draw them in (basic strategy).
・If green and blue dots appear at the same time, prioritize collecting the green dot first.
・Avoid creating gaps where there are no enemies or items to prevent your Faith Points from decreasing.
・Spirit Strike transforms enemy bullets into green light bullets. It’s a good strategy to use Spirit Strike in areas with a high concentration of enemy bullets.
However, since it drains your power, don’t use it recklessly—I won’t be responsible if you end up struggling.
(Note: While an enemy’s Spell Card is active, enemy bullets will not turn into green light bullets even if you use Spirit Strike.)
・Even if you can’t defeat an enemy, as long as you’re firing shots at a tough enemy, the rate at which your Faith Points decrease
will slow down.
・When in Full Power-Up mode, green dots appear instead of power-up items.
System: Extend
● Extend
In regular stages, you get an extend when your score reaches 20 million, 40 million, 80 million, or 150 million.
In extra stages, you get an extend when your score reaches 30 million or 100 million.
